SEDATION DENTISTRY

ORAL SEDATION

NITROUS OXIDE

HOSPITAL DENTISTRY

When combined with Oxygen we call it “Laughing Gas” or “Happy Air”. This gas helps reduce anxiety and provide minimal pain management. Nitrous oxide is safe because your child is awake, responsive, and breathing on their own. He/she also returns to normal within 3-5 minutes without any lingering effects. After your child's appointment, they may return to school and resume activities approved by your Pediatric Dentist. The “Laughing Gas” or “Happy Air” comes in a variety of flavors including: bubble gum, orange, strawberry, or vanilla.

IV SEDATION

Oral conscious sedation is a mild sedative that is used for healthy children. It reduces patient anxiety and allows your child to relax. Although your child will be drowsy, they are still awake and can respond to verbal commands.  Oral sedation is a tool that reduces the stress your child experiences, allows your child to receive the dental treatment, and provides a positive dental experience for your child. Oral sedation is only effective for some children, and your Pediatric Dentist will determine if this is the best option for your child.

We understand there are very fearful or apprehensive children where traditional behavior management techniques are ineffective. There are some children that cannot complete a dental restorative treatment in a normal office setting. Whether it’s an issue of age, anxiety, special needs, or an extensive restorative treatment, the Pediatric Dentist may recommend the hospital setting. Performing comprehensive dental care under general anesthesia will allow the necessary care to be delivered, while providing a positive dental experience; Hospital dentistry can restore your child's oral health and may help prevent a lifelong fear of dentists.
